In one of those conversations I recommended (as I often have) the writings of F. LeRon Shults, who teaches theology in Norway and has written several books I have read and appreciated. (The ones I’ve read are: The Postfoundationalist Task of Theology, Faces of Forgiveness, Transforming Spirituality, Reforming the Doctrine of God.).   Ben: I might add to your list of secondary works on Pannenberg the one by one of my former students, F. Leron Shults, now Professor of Systematic Theology at Agder University in Norway, The Postfoundationalist Task of Theology: Wolfhart Pannenberg and the New Theological Rationality (Eerdmans, ).

In the words of Carl F. H. Henry, “Divine revelation is the source of all truth, the truth of Christianity included The task of Christian theology is to exhibit the content of biblical revelation as an orderly whole.” (, God, Revelation, and Authority, vol. 1 [Waco: Word, ], ). This view of the theological task is rooted in. However, depending on one’s theory or philosophy of epistemology (e.g. foundationalist vs. postfoundationalist), the answer to each of these questions is significantly different. For instance, the theologian’s task involves gathering relevant data (scriptural and otherwise) for research and investigation of a particular doctrine regarding.

The book distinguishes between the power of narrative in biblical theology and the power of application in systematic theology, but also emphasizes the importance of their collaboration in ministry. Having laid the foundation for pastoral ministry, Lawrence uses the three tools to build a biblical theology, telling the entire story of the Bible. This volume by F. LeRon Shults argues that the popular “foundationalist” reading of Pannenberg is a misinterpretation of his methodology and shows that, in fact, the structural dynamics of Pannenberg’s approach offer significant resources for the postfoundationalist task of theology in our postmodern culture.
